Swedish massage
Swedish massage is the most common form of massage in the West. It usually refers to a style of massage that is used for general stress release and relaxation. The therapist uses 5 main strokes, with variations, specifically designed to relax muscles.
Swedish massage relieves muscle tension and pain, improves circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues, increases flexibility and mobility and helps to get rid of lactic acid and other wastes.
The five basic strokes are:
-
Effleurage – long, gliding strokes
-
Petrissage – kneading and compression motions
-
Friction – deep circular or transverse movements
-
Tapotement – Percussive movements and rhythmic tapping
-
Vibration – shaking
At Genaesthetics we offer Swedish massage as a Full body treatment, which includes the back, arms, legs, décolleté and face, and usually lasts an hour. We also offer a back and neck massage which lasts either 30 or 60 minutes.
